Allison Gorgichuk

September 24, 2019. There's a slightly brisk edge to the breeze this morning, and I'm walking along path in Newmarket, just east of the old Main Street, when I run into Allison. We're both just on the chilly side, but she agrees to answer my questions while her dog waits! Once she gets started, it is clear that Allison is concerned about our planet.

Are you in love?

“Yes. I’ve been married to the same man for twenty-one years, and I recently just celebrated my sixtieth birthday. We took a trip to Europe and we’re happily married–two children.”

Who has been the most influential person in your life?

“I would have to say, my father. He got me involved in sports. He kept my head straight and helped me out with academics, and it all lead to a good career and traveling around the world!”

How do you feel about the future?

“I’m concerned about the future–with all of the pollution and global warming. I’m worried about my kids–how they’re going to be able to afford a home. Even, you know, plastics in the ocean that affect the fish we eat. We think we’re eating healthy but possibly it’s contaminated. Yeah, I’m extremely worried, and actually locally, I was just reading an article in the local paper this morning about how our little treasure–Lake Wilcox, down the road, is just being polluted and contaminated by younger people that aren’t respecting the–nature. Yeah.”
