Hélène Soucy Stewart

August 31, 2019. The people staffing visitor's centres across Canada are angels. Hélène is a perfect example! I met her in the Indian Head Visitor's Information Centre and we chatted about the world.

Are you in love?

“Yes! Well, I’ve been married for fifty-one years, so I guess I have to be in love!”

Who has been the most influential person in your life?

“Probably my dad I think, but I mean any of my family members–my children, my grandkids, my husband–they all have had quite a long part in the last fifty-one years.”

How do you feel about the future?

“Well that’s a good question. For myself I’m optimistic, I mean I hope I still have another many, many years that I can see all the transformation. For my grandchildren, they will make their own life as they need, as they see it. In general, as the world turns–not so much. There’s a lot that is concerning, problematic…not to get into politics too much, there are definitely issues that I have problems with…let’s put it that way. Uhm–a world in turmoil right now, and we need to do something about it. But, in general, in terms of my own life, or my kids’ lives, as I said, I think we will all end up doing what we need to do to be happy with what we have.”
