Captain Derrick Forsythe, Vegreville, Alberta

Posted in My Three Questions

Captain Derrick Forsythe

August 24, 2019. I had stopped in Vegreville to see the giant Pysanka of course. That's a Ukranian egg of Seussian size in case you're wondering! I was heading back to my van after taking in the glorious creation and passed Captain Forsythe getting something out of his truck. Initially, I saw the uniform and figured that the person inside it would be all business and not interested in my queries. I could not have been more wrong. I summoned my courage, introduced myself, explained my project, and we had the most wonderful conversation!

Are you in love?

“Yes. I’ve been married for almost twenty years, I have a nine year-old boy and they are the centre of my universe.”

Who has been the most influential person in your life?

“I’d have to say my parents because they gave me the values that carried me through to where I am today; my mom and dad.”

How do you feel about the future!

“I think the future is what you make of it, so I’m fairly optimistic–because I think we all make our own future. The future’s not laid out in front of us. It’s not something that is predestined. It’s something that we determine ourselves.”
